Chapter 14
Lissa
Even though she told Shayla she had to leave a note for her secretary, her mind was hundreds of miles away from her current situation. She could only think about the passionate look in Seth’s eyes when she last saw him. During that vulnerable moment of intimacy, she broke down and professed her love to him.
“I love you,” she told him that night. She had every reason to believe the sacred three words that rolled so easily from her lips were also in his heart. He hadn’t actually said the words, and it was probably too soon for them to be on her mind. Yet, she was sure ‘I…love…you’ was just around the corner for him as well. While waiting on him to return her spoken sentiments of love, the thick silence in the room nearly sliced her heart like a knife.
He simply smiled at her and said, “Say it again.”
His request to hear the words again were enough to send her to climax.
“I love you,” she said, once again, with ease. It was her truth. She could not reconcile those three words with logic, but they definitely fell from her lips.
“I have strong feelings for you, Lissa,” was his reply once their bodies disconnected. He threw in a lifeline in the middle of her sea of emotions that she caught and held onto for dear life. “I care about you a lot,” he added.
Taking in the moment, she engaged the sultry and mesmerizing look in his eyes, which told the story that his voice would not. He felt the same way. He loved her.
His admission of care was interpreted as more than the caring expression strangers gave to one another as passersby on a busy avenue. That care was somewhere up there next to love. Somewhere up there next to commitment. Somewhere next to the utmost respect.
With her mind at ease, she snapped out of her daydream reaffirmed in her feelings for Seth.
“Shoot! Shayla is waiting for me in the car,” she said and shook her head. She stood up to gather her purse and cell phone. “I can't think straight when it comes to that man.”
Just as she was about to put her glasses on her face, an empty vase sitting on the windowsill caught her eye. The weekend was approaching, which meant she would get to spend more quality time with her boo. She couldn’t wait.
Who says there is a time limit on when a person begins to feel love? she questioned and wrote a quick reminder to have something special delivered to his job.
She walked out of the office and to the front of the building. As she got closer to the car, she noticed Shayla looking around as if she were paranoid. “Hey girl, you look like someone just mugged you or something.”
“No, just sitting here waiting on you. What did you have to do write a dissertation report before you came down? I've been waiting on you for almost twenty minutes,” Shayla said once Lissa put her seatbelt on.
